Abstract Painter and Sculptor
John Barwell
John Barwell is an abstract
painter and sculptor who develops his images by an imaginative
interpretation of landscape, space and colour.
He has always painted, his style
changing through the years, responding to the stimuli of art college,
international travel and living in developing countries.
His sculptures are highly tactile wood carvings which have
organic references.
For many years John worked overseas before making the career
change from adviser to artist. Travelling in the remote regions of Papua
New Guinea, he was influenced by the work of traditional woodcarvers,
and started to make his own abstract sculptures from the late 1990s.
